For us, the decision was ideological. We believe that as citizens in a state with both Jews and Arabs, we must know our neighbors from up close.

Our hope for our daughter is that she learn to accept difference and be compassionate towards the other, but also learn to think independently and have a strong identity.

I grew up in a small town neighbored by two Arab towns. There was never any connections between us, and the people living in these neighboring towns. Today, I realize how unrealistic growing up this way was.
