The city issued a reminder for residents who own property on Tuesday. Homeowners who still have to pay their 2021 taxes have until June 30 to pay their outstanding taxes to avoid attorney fees.

According to the city, accounts that are not paid by the deadline will incur an additional 15% attorney’s fee added to their normal 18% penalty and interest for a total of 33% additional fees. Additionally, those who do not pay on time will see an increase in fees each month thereafter.

This notice is also for those who have to pay the second half payment if they want to avoid the fee. The split payment plan incurs a lesser penalty of 13% in penalties and interest, but will also see monthly increases each subsequent month.

To avoid paying late penalties, owners can pay at the tax offices at the town hall or at the town hall annex. A night drop box is also available at both locations as well as sending payment to the Laredo City Tax Department, but neither accepts cash. Checks can be made payable to the City of Laredo Tax Department. The city noted that hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

If available, the most convenient form of payment would be through the City of Laredo website with a debit or credit card.
