Richmond County school system announces property tax hike

AUGUSTA, Georgia (WJBF) – The Richmond County School Board has announced plans to raise 2022 property taxes by 4.93% over the mileage reduction rate.

According to an RCBOE statement,

When the total taxable property summary is prepared, Georgia law requires that a retroactive mileage rate be calculated that will produce the same total income on the current year summary as last year’s mileage rate would have produced if no revaluation had taken place.

The budget passed by the Richmond County School Board requires a higher mileage rate than the setback mileage rate; therefore, before the Richmond County School Board sets a final mileage rate, Georgia law requires that three public hearings be held to allow the public to express their opinion on the increase.
